Description/Purpose Statement Failure of the normal regulatory mechanisms in the body can lead to rapid and profound shock. Cardiac failure, hypovolemia, anaphylaxis, and neurogenic dysfunction are all causes of shock and are discussed in terms of assessment and management. Infection and its role in the development of sepsis and septic shock are described. Target Audience This class was designed for the novice critical care or telemetry nurse; however, other health care professionals are welcome to attend.
